This assignment will require you to analyze and evaluate the relationship between the novel To Kill a Mockingbird and the basic ideas from the Enlightenment. This assignment will count equally in both classes as you will be drawing upon knowledge from both English and history.
I. ESSAY ASSIGNMENT
A. Writing Prompt: To what degree were the attitudes and beliefs from the Enlightenment and French Revolution evident or not evident in the novel (or characters, situations, etc.) To Kill a Mockingbird?
B. Your answer must be supported with at least three direct quotes.
A. Use an essay format to write your response.
B. Organize your essay around a clear and focused thesis statement.
C. Develop and support your thesis with specific and detailed evidence from the play and historical time-period.
A. Your essay must be word-processed using an appropriate 12-point font and formatted according to the MLA style.
B. Set the margins at 1 inch and the spacing at double.
C. Pages after the first should be numbered.
D. Internal citations are required when using a direct quote.
E. Provide a relevant, engaging title for your essay.
A. This assignment will be worth 300 points.
B. Assessment will be based on the criteria established on the writing rubric printed on the back (please attach to the back of your essay).
