2010-2011 School Year
August 23, 2010
Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Community Members:
Welcome back to the new school year! It promises to be
an exciting year for our District. We will continue to
collaborate and work to find ways to increase student
achievement and focus on providing each of our students
the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills and
character to become productive and successful citizens
in the community. This type of progress does not happen
by accident or in isolation. Everyone’s commitment to
working together for the benefit of our students is
evident and deserves ongoing recognition.
On September 1, we will begin the year
poised for success and filled with excitement and
enthusiasm. That success will come from your motivation,
passion and ambitious desire to deliver for each of our
students. As in the past, I look forward to this school
year – both for the opportunities and the challenges. I
am privileged to be the superintendent of such a
student-centered district with dedicated staff members,
outstanding students, supportive parents, committed
board members and a community which values education.
Transparency in communication is our
bottom line, and we will continue to strive to keep
families, staff and community members informed and
involved. We want everyone to know what is happening,
why it is happening and how it is going to make a
difference. To enhance communication, I encourage
parents and staff to join our “going paperless”
initiative. To provide us your email address, parents
can simply input or verify their email addresses in
Parent Portal. If you do not have an account in Parent
Portal, please contact your school’s main office. Parent
Portal will be accessible for the upcoming school year
on August 25.
Additionally, I have initiated a review
of the District’s overall communication strategies. A
District task force will be meeting over the next three
months with a charge to recommend both short-term and
long-term solutions for improvements in District
communications.
One immediate improvement in
communications that is being implemented in early fall
is a newly redesigned web site for the public and web
portal for staff. We are excited about these efforts and
will be soliciting feedback on the website’s
effectiveness.
I look forward to us continuing to
provide the best educational experience possible for the
most valuable asset in the Gig Harbor/Peninsula
communities, our students.
As always, I welcome your questions, suggestions and
comments.
Sincerely,
Terry Nelsen Bouck
Superintendent
