EALRs for specific subject areas (OSPI)

The Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs) exist for Reading, Writing, Communication, Science, Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Health/Fitness.

The EALRs form a common core of subjects and skills that all students in Washington are expected to master. The Essential Learnings focus on content, skills, thinking processes, and preparing our students for the workplace and the future.

Select a subject below for the EALR information:

Reading Writing
Mathematics Communications
Science Arts
Health & Fitness Social Studies (includes history, geography, civics, economics
  • State Goals Poster
  • Frameworks for achieving the EALRs (OSPI)
Frameworks are designed to assist teachers in planning and implementing the Essential Academic Learning Requirements. They provide a focus for assessment and serve as a resource in documenting and reporting student progress at specific levels of learning.

Student Technology Competencies

The Instructional Technology Committee (ITC) drafted, revised, and approved new K-12 student technology competencies over the past year. The district will begin assisting K-2 teachers in the fall of 2003 with the implementation of these competencies with other grade levels to follow.

To review current drafts, please select a link below. These files are in Microsoft Word format and can be opened in a window or saved. PSD teachers are encouraged to save these files and add their own components to their competency document.
