The elementary highly capable program consists of the following:
Grade 3: Students participate in a pull-out program at their home school once a week.
Grades 4 and 5: Students have the choice of participating in one of the following two options:
- In-class Model - When possible, students are clustered with other highly capable students within a heterogeneous classroom. Students may also participate in pull-out activities with other highly capable students in their building.
- Self contained classroom - Students are placed in a split 4th/5th grade class at one of our three identified elementary schools. Students are served in a classroom with other identified highly capable students. The class is taught by a teacher trained to meet the needs of highly capable students.
Grades 6-8: Each building has created a model to fit their individual needs. Generally, students are clustered within a heterogeneous classroom for Language Arts or Language Arts/Social Studies. Students are placed in a math class appropriate for their level. Advanced electives are also available at the middle school level.
