Extending the Classroom Walls
You can earn up to 24 clock hours if you participate in all three sessions and complete both parts one and two. All Part 1 classes will take place from 8:00-12:00 and will occur in the Tech Services training room. Classes will be limited to 15 participants.
Session 1: July 14th or August 18th
Part 1: Introduction to existing district resources provided to all staff and students (4 hours class time)
We will examine each of the district online learning resources, how these resources can be used in the classroom to enhance student learning and how to use SWIFT to make these resources easily available to students and parents
Part 2: Integrating Resources into SWIFT by creating links for students (4 Hours independent work)
Those who wish to follow-up the introductory class with independent work will be expected to establish a SWIFT site for the upcoming school year. The SWIFT site must provide information and links for the district resources.
Session 2: July 16th or August 20th
Part 1: Overview of blogs and the interface for creating your own blog (4 hours class time)
We will look at the blog environments that already exist in the district and then will learn how to work with the different features of a blog. Each person will have their own blog environment and will learn how to add new entries, pictures, insert videos, and link to other resources. We will also look at a collection of select Web 2.0 resources.
Part 2: Creating a Classroom Blog and integrating two Web 2.0 tools (4 Hours independent work)
Those who wish to follow-up the introductory class with independent work will be expected to establish a classroom blog for the upcoming school year. The blog should integrate the techniques covered in part 1 and should demonstrate the integration of at least two Web 2.o resources.

You will learn how to use Google Reader to manage RSS feeds and how to distribute key information to you students.
Part 2: Setting up your own Google Reader and developing a plan for using with students (4 Hours independent work)
Those who wish to follow-up the introductory class with independent work will be expected to establish a Google Reader for the upcoming school year. You will also be expected to setup at least two special subject pages with specific RSS feeds from selected websites.
