Winterfest 2008 was another great success! Sandi Malich, Winterfest Event Coordinator, and Mike Miller, Peninsula High School ASB Advisor, did a fantastic job once again. A special thank you also goes out to our wonderful bookkeeper Bobbie Chemla for the labor intensive task of overseeing the financial aspects of this weekend’s event, and Kathy Crowley for stepping up to help out whenever and wherever needed.  Full Story

  November 7, 2008
  Jane Ostericher
Thank you to everyone who donated, attended, or volunteered for the 15th Annual Boosters FUNdraising Dinner & Auction held on Saturday, October 25th at the Key Peninsula Civic Center.

The gymnasium at the Key Peninsula Civic Center was transformed by many talented decorators. Over 190 delicious meals were prepared by Sid Taylor from the PSD Food Services. Dinner guests were served very well by members of our World Cooking class. Event attendees were musically entertained by PHS’ Razmatazz. Many other PHS students, staff members, parents & community members helped with all other auction operations. It was an enjoyable community event that raised support for PHS students.  Full Story

  SAVE THRIFT STORE LOOKIN’ GOOD
  October 21, 2008
  Marsha Williams
Thanks to the help of a great bunch of volunteers, the SAVE Thrift Store has a new coat of paint.

Student members of the Key Clubs of Peninsula and Gig Harbor High Schools, their advisor Kathy Wilber, other PHS students and scholarship committee members and their families completed the job during late September and early October. Prior to painting, students trimmed and removed a large amount of brush from the rear of the store to make those walls accessible. Debra Langley-Boyer served as coordinator of the project.

  Rachel’s Challenge Impacts PHS
  October 6, 2008
  Melissa McNeish

PHS Rachel’s Challenge assemblies left people feeling more compassion and kindness towards each other. Over half of the school returned for further training in the afternoon. The challenge that Rachel made through her writing, before her death, was to start a chain reaction of kindness and compassion.

The five challenges Mike Hills emphasized were:

• Eliminate Prejudice (look for the best in others)
• Dare to Dream (write down goals and keep a journal)
• Choose Positive Influences (input=output)
• Use Kind Words (little acts of kindness = huge results)
• Start a Chain Reaction (tell how you feel)

  Scholarship Season Commences in September
  September 9, 2008
  Marsha Williams

Peninsula High School is proud to boast one of the largest scholarship programs in the state. Since 1985 it has provided funds to students for their education beyond high school, whether academic or vocational. Nearly $200,000 is channeled to our graduates each year through this program. It is now time for the Class of 2009 to partake of the bounty.

The scholarship committee will present an orientation to the program for students and parents on Thursday evening, September 18, at 7 p.m. in the PHS library. The creation of a scholarship portfolio, which serves as the sole application for most of the awards in this program, will be explained. Samples of prior year portfolios will be available for viewing.  Full Story

  Seahawks Around the World
  July 1, 2008
  Tim Winter
Introducing our new Seahawk mascot logo and “Seahawks Around the World”. The PHS Boosters, with the help of Curtiss Hall’s artwork, have created a retro spirit t-shirt that is taking the PHS community by storm. Starting this summer, we begin our Seahawks Around the World campaign that will take Peninsula Pride World Wide!!! You can pick up your “PHS Proud” t-shirt in the main office for only $10. Take your t-shirt with you as you travel around the state, country, or world and get your picture taken…posing like the Seahawk…in front of landmarks, signs, buildings, etc…anything that helps identify where you have been. E-mail the picture to Tim Winter ( wintert@psd401.net) and you will find yourself on the wall at PHS in the fall as you spread PHS LOVE! Have a great summer and show off your love of Peninsula High School! Full Story

Teacher of the Week

Curtiss Hall
Curtiss began his career at Peninsula High School in 1992, teaching art and coaching track and cross country.  He became the athletic director shortly after that, and has taught history classes too.  He has shared his artistic talents on or near our athletic fields and courts.  He puts in many hours setting up fields and supervising sporting contests.  He and his wife Kathy (a PHS graduate and also a teacher) have three boys.  Curtiss is a leader in the SPSL league, directing the league swim and cross country meets.  He is very proud of Peninsula’s 2nd place overall showing in the new SPSL league this fall, our three athletes of the year; Chris Borg, Lindsey Marchand, and Lance Wilhelm, as well as X-Country Coach of the year, Joel Wingard.   We don’t know what we’d do without Curtiss Hall.

  Office Staff of the Week

Jody Crowe
Jody has been the voice and smile of activities and athletics since 1999. She has been a tremendous asset to our program, assisting students and parents with the athletic eligibility process and more. Jody is the one who schedules buses, referees, workers for the events and checks student’s grades and other eligibility requirements. Jody always has a smile for everyone. She works hard every day, so that students and coaches can compete. Jody is married with two girls who were competitive swimmers while attending PHS. We are lucky to have Jody working for all of us.

  The Week At A Glance

We are positioned to be in the top 10 finishers. As we finish one sport season, we look forward to the next one, beginning Nov. 17th.
