2021 Learning Information

This web page is dedicated to providing information, resources and communication updates. Thank you for partnering with us through this ever-changing and challenging time. We ask for your understanding as we continue through the school year with our staged reentry approach and offering a dual platform model of hybrid in-person and remote learning. We are committed to sharing information with staff and families as soon as it becomes available.

Fall 2021: Find Your Place in Peninsula Schools

We are excited about next fall and safely offering in-person and virtual learning options for all students full-time, 5 days a week. Safety for everyone will be our priority and we will continue to adhere to the safety protocols outlined by the Washington State Department of Health and the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department.

Our experiences as a public education system during the global pandemic have given us an opportunity to reflect on the programs and services we offer our community. We’ve taken this time to redesign some of our existing programs and reimagine new services to better meet the needs of our students and families.

Spring 2021: Hybrid in-person and Remote Learning Updates

State recommendations, plus data from our December COVID-19 testing pilot, demonstrate that when safety countermeasures are followed, we can control COVID-19 virus spread on campus while in-person learning is occurring.

We have used a staged reentry and dual platform approach to learning during the 2020-2021 school year. Grades have been invited back to school buildings for in-person learning at various points throughout the school year.

As of the high school return to hybrid in-person learning in March, all grades have now been invited back to school buildings. Remote learning continues for all students who elect to learn remotely.

Grades K-2, Development Preschool

  • Four full in-person days a week (M-T and Th-Fr) with remote learning work on Wednesdays

Grades 3-5

  • Four half day in-person days a week (M-T and Thr-Fr) in AM/PM cohort mode with remote learning work on Wednesdays

Grades 6-12

  • Two full in-person days a week (M-Thr or T-Fr) with remote learning work on Wednesdays

Special education programs have been in-person since the fall. Select small groups, activities, clubs, and sports are also meeting in-person.

The health and safety of all students and staff remains a top priority of the Peninsula School District. In the event of a positive COVID-19 case at a PSD school or office location, we work directly with the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department (TPCHD) as they conduct contact tracing.

The purpose of the COVID-19 Data Dashboard is to provide transparency regarding the number of COVID-19 cases within the Peninsula School District while respecting student and staff medical privacy rights.
