Swift Water Elementary is the second school to be completed out of four elementary construction projects, and six projects overall, funded by the 2019 capital projects bond.

Swift Water is a new school located on Harbor Hill Drive in Gig Harbor. The district purchased this parcel of land in 2013 in anticipation of the increased number of students residing in the growing Gig Harbor North area.

Swift Water opened its doors to students the first day of school for the 2021-2022 school year. It is the district’s first walking school, with the majority of its students living close enough to walk to and from school.

Swift Water and Pioneer Elementary (which opened its new facility in January 2021) are the first new elementary school communities added to the district in 34 years.

The name Swift Water is taken from the translation of Gig Harbor’s original Native American inhabitants and their connection to the swift currents of the Narrows Passage.

Swift Water was designed by Integrus Architecture and constructed by Neeley Construction. The school is just under 74,000 square feet with 30 classrooms.

It’s so exciting to see the school site transforming. For our Gig Harbor North families, the school location will offer a central hub for learning within walking distance for most of our students. Recent local growth has pushed our elementary schools over capacity. We are so grateful to our PSD community for passing last year’s capital bond that made this local community school a reality for students in our district.
