Special Education Parent Advisory Committee Honored With WASA Community Leadership Award

The Peninsula School District Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (SEPAC) was recently awarded the prestigious Community Leadership Award from the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA). This award is presented to community members or groups in recognition of their outstanding contributions toward education.

SEPAC, which is made up of six parents and four district special education staff, was instrumental in advocating for systemic changes that have directly impacted families, staff and students. The group offers workshops, resources, and direct engagement and helps empower parents and guardians with the knowledge and tools necessary to advocate for their student’s needs.

“This dedicated group of individuals has exemplified leadership in their approach to supporting special education in our district and has contributed to fostering an inclusive environment where every student is recognized, valued, and given the opportunity to thrive,” said Janna Rush, Director of Special Education. “The impact of SEPAC's work is evident not only in the success and well-being of our special education students but in the positive shift in our district's culture.”

SEPAC’s partnership with special education staff has not only benefited students with special needs but has enriched the educational experience for all students, creating a more compassionate and understanding school community. Congratulations to SEPAC on your well-deserved honor.
