State of the District January 8, 2021 Graphic

Dear Peninsula School District Community,

Below is an overview of our 2021 in-person learning plan. New state recommendations, plus data from our December COVID-19 testing pilot demonstrating that when safety countermeasures are followed, we can control virus spread on campus while in-person learning is occurring, will allow us to increase our capacity for students wishing to return for in-person learning.

K-1st Grades, Select Small Groups, Special Education Programs

  • Students will continue to have the option of learning in-person four days per week, with remote learning on Wednesdays, or as determined for small groups and special education services.

  • Students in district level programs (developmental preschool, ECEAP, Options, TRAC, ET&T, CTP) will have the option of continuing their current in-person model/schedule or a remote learning model.

2nd Grade

  • 2nd graders have been invited to return to in-person learning beginning Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021. This return date excludes 2nd graders at Pioneer Elementary or those who participate in the Peninsula Accelerated Classroom Enrichment (PACE) Program, as those students learn alongside 3rd graders in those models.

  • 2nd graders participating in in-person learning will attend school on campus four days a week with remote learning on Wednesdays.

3rd-5th Grade

  • 3rd-5th graders, plus 2nd graders who attend Pioneer and/or participate in the Peninsula Accelerated Classroom Enrichment (PACE) Program, will be invited to return to PSD classrooms sometime during 2nd semester.

  • A start date to begin the hybrid learning model is yet to be determined, but it will not be before Feb. 1, 2021.

  • Students will participate in a hybrid learning model, choosing in-person learning either in the morning or afternoon.

6th-12th Grade

  • 6th-12th graders will be invited to return to PSD classrooms sometime during 2nd semester.

  • A start date to begin the hybrid learning model is yet to be determined, but it will not be before Feb. 1, 2021.

  • Students will be divided into three cohorts of (1) hybrid Mondays and Thursdays, (2) hybrid Tuesdays and Fridays, and (3) fully remote.

Remote Learning

  • Families may still choose a fully remote learning option for their student.

Safety Protocols

  • All schools follow safety protocols such as conducting daily health checks; requiring face coverings, physical distancing, and hand washing/sanitizing; and cleaning and disinfecting.

  • Every school has a COVID-19 Site Safety Plan, which lists specific details for how safety protocols will be implemented in each school. Click here to find your school’s plan.

More Details

  • FAQs and information about transportation, meals, safety protocols, athletics, hybrid learning, and grade levels can be found on our school reopening page. Please check here frequently for updates.

Thank you for all that you’ve done to support your child’s learning during this unprecedented time!

Sincerely,
