Dear Peninsula School District Community,
Here are some updates for this week:
Although we are currently in Phase 2 of the Healthy Washington: Roadmap to Recovery Plan, we received new guidance for Gig Harbor High School and Peninsula High School’s graduation ceremonies scheduled for the Tacoma Dome on Saturday, June 19.
In this guidance, we were grateful to learn that school graduation ceremonies may utilize Phase 3 Spectator Events guidance in Phase 2, if they operate under an event health and safety plan for the graduation ceremony. This means, as of now, our graduation ceremonies will go on as planned!
Kindergarten Registration Now Open
Welcome, Kindergarteners! Online Kindergarten registration for the 2021-2022 school year is now open for both in-person and virtual learning. Registering early allows you to find out about all of the transition activities we have planned in the spring and summer! To register, you will need to upload the following documents or turn them in to your child’s school:
Proof of residency, like a utility bill;
Student birth certificate; and
Student immunization records.
Go to psd401.net/registration to begin the online process. Families may contact any of our schools to schedule a time to stop in to use a Chromebook if you do not have a device, have connectivity issues, or need support completing the form.
Social Studies Preview
After nearly a year and a half of collaborative work, piloting in classrooms, and detailed review, the Secondary Social Studies Committee met for a final time on April 6, and reached a consensus curriculum recommendation for grades 6-12. This recommendation was approved by the Instructional Advisory Committee on April 20, and now will have two readings before the School Board, on April 22 and May 27. Additionally, the Department of Learning & Innovation will host two Community Preview events on Tuesday, April 27 and Tuesday, May 11. For more information, Zoom links, and demo access, please visit the Secondary Social Studies Adoption website.
