Dear Peninsula School District Community,
As we head into Mid-Winter Break this weekend, we want to share some of the latest district news.
Elementary School Boundaries
Last night at a work study session, the Peninsula School District Board of Directors approved new elementary school boundaries. Redistricting was needed to identify a boundary attendance area for Elementary School #9 that is under construction in the Harbor Hill area of Gig Harbor. Elementary School #9 is scheduled to open in the fall of 2021. Please view the new boundary maps here.

Highly Capable Referrals Extended
Highly Capable Program referrals have been extended to March 15, 2021.
Referrals are open for grades 1-8 using the following form: tinyurl.com/PSD401HCREFERRALS.
Highly Capable students are those who perform, or show potential to perform, at significantly advanced academic levels when compared with others of their age, experiences, or environments.
Parents, school staff, and community members may refer students to participate in the district’s annual Cognitive Abilities test to see if they are eligible for PSD’s Highly Capable Program. Learn more at psd401.net/learning/highly-capable.
Pioneer Elementary to Host Official School Opening Event
The community is invited to view a live stream of the ribbon-cutting and official opening of Pioneer Elementary School on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 11am. Due to COVID-19 guidelines and precautions, there is limited capacity for in-person attendance. Those attending in-person have been contacted individually. Please join us by watching the live stream at psd401.net or the PSD YouTube Channel.
New Report Furthers Understanding of COVID-19 Transmission in Schools
Yesterday, the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) released the COVID-19 Outbreaks in Washington State K-12 Schools report. “There’s encouraging news here,” said Laura Newman, PhD, MHS, COVID-19 Outbreak Response Senior Epidemiologist. “We are seeing fairly low levels of COVID-19 transmission within school settings so far. The majority of COVID-19 outbreaks in schools involve three or fewer cases, and school administrators, teachers, and staff are doing a good job of implementing preventative measures that limit the spread of COVID-19.”
We hope you have a wonderful long weekend and a restful Mid-Winter Break.
