Dear Peninsula School District Community,
Here are some updates for this week:
Second Grade In-Person Learning Begins Tuesday, Jan. 19
We look forward to welcoming 2nd grade students whose families selected in-person learning to our elementary campuses on Tuesday, Jan. 19. Those choosing to learn remotely will continue to do so. Please note, this return date excludes 2nd graders at Pioneer Elementary and those who participate in Peninsula Accelerated Classroom Enrichment (PACE) program, as those students are learning alongside 3rd graders in those models.
Plans Continue for Hybrid In-Person Learning for Older Grades
We are continuing to define our plans for hybrid in-person learning models for 3rd-5th graders and 6th-12th graders. Return dates for these students have not yet been determined, but it will not be before Feb. 1, 2021. District leaders are using recent survey results to help us start the hybrid learning model as soon as COVID-19 rates allow for additional in-person learning. We will give staff and families a minimum two-weeks’ notice before the hybrid learning model begins. Questions? Please see our FAQs.
Elementary School Construction Update
Click here to view a video update with Superintendent Art Jarvis featuring elementary school construction projects from the 2019 bond. Among the highlights, an exciting milestone has been reached as we welcome staff and students to the newly-constructed Pioneer Elementary School beginning Tuesday, Jan. 19.
Superintendent Search Survey
The Superintendent Search Survey (complete in English or Spanish) produced by search firm Northwest Leadership Associates will close on Friday, Feb. 5. Please consider providing your input, if you have not already done so.
The search firm is asking all staff, families and community members to take the survey to learn about personal attributes and qualities the community would like to see in the next leader of Peninsula School District. This survey was originally shared in Nov. 2020.
Superintendent Jarvis, who was selected by the school board in July of 2018 as the district’s interim superintendent, will retire from the district on June 30, 2021. The search process runs throughout the 2020-2021 school year. The PSD school board’s goal is to hire a new superintendent to start on July 1, 2021. Learn more about the search process at psd401.net/suptsearch.
Health and Safety Reminders
We are committed to keeping all staff and students safe. Each school has a building COVID-19 site safety plan and COVID-19 site coordinator. When entering a PSD building or school, all people must follow health screening procedures and answer health attestation questions fully before entering.
It is critical that staff and students follow our safety protocols every day! We appreciate your cooperation. Here are some reminders:
Physical Distancing: Some individuals may be asymptomatic (symptom free), so the only way to stay safe from COVID-19 is to consistently maintain 6’ social distancing.
Hand Washing/Sanitizing: To help stop the spread of the virus in our schools/worksites, all individuals should wash or sanitize their hands frequently.
Face Coverings: COVID-19 is spread via droplets that we emit when we breath, talk, laugh, sing or shout. Face coverings stop these droplets from being released into the air. This is why wearing a face covering that covers the nose and mouth is so important.
Monday, Jan. 18, schools and district offices are closed in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We hope everyone has a safe holiday!
