State of the District - May 18, 2021 Text Graphic

Dear Peninsula School District Community,

Here are some updates for this third week of May:

Masks Still Required in School Buildings
You may be aware that the CDC has updated its guidance on face coverings for people who are vaccinated. There has been no change to the mask requirement for schools in Washington. Please know that all staff and students are still required to wear masks in schools and at all worksites.

Summer Learning
'PSD Summer Scholars' provides learning opportunities for students to engage in academic and social-emotional programs to connect with peers and fill needed learning gaps. We are committed to providing a quality summer school experience while upholding our commitment to

health and safety. All summer programs, including any associated transportation and meals, are free for participating students.

Visit our web page to learn more about program dates, times, eligibility, and registration instructions.

Fall Learning Preference Survey Results
Thank you to all families who completed the fall learning preference survey to help us plan ahead for the 2021-2022 school year. The survey is now closed and here are the results:

  • 59% of families completed the survey.
  • Of the 59%, 96% stated their learning preference for fall is in-person.

Kindergarten Registration
The Peninsula School District is planning to offer in-person and virtual options for full-day Kindergarten, 5 days a week at all elementary schools in the fall. Registering your child early offers the best opportunity to receive communication about summertime school events and to receive Kindergarten specific information. In order to enroll your child for Kindergarten, they must be 5 years old by August 31. Enrollment must be completed online.

Go to psd401.net/registration to begin the online process. Families may contact any of our schools to schedule a time to stop in to use a Chromebook if you do not have a device, have connectivity issues, or need support completing the form.

The Academies at Henderson Bay - Bay Academy
The Bay Academy is a “school of choice” that offers a unique experience for students looking for a different option than the large traditional high school. We are a small school in a modern facility, serving students in grades 9-12. At The Bay Academy, our goal is to empower students to take charge of their own learning so they can leave high school prepared for the next challenges. Students take four classes at a time, allowing for more concentration on fewer topics. Daily classes are about 80 minutes and last for 9 weeks rather than 18 weeks.

Interested in learning more? Families are invited to attend a Bay Academy Information session via Zoom on Thursday, June 3. Sessions will be 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Register here.

Summer Meals
The PSD Nutrition Office will have meal kits available for children up to the age of 18 during summer break running from June 24, 2021 through September 2, 2021. Complete the survey and find more information about meal distribution here.

Thank you,
PSD Leadership
