Overview

The Peninsula School District offers a variety of summer learning opportunities at the elementary and secondary levels. During Summer 2022 all learning opportunities, including any associated transportation and meals, are free for participating students.

Summer Soar

PSD has partnered with the Boys and Girls Club to offer this free summer program. 

Summer Soar is a integrated summer learning program for 3rd and 4th grade students who need some extra academic help during the summer.

The academic portion of the program runs from 9 a.m. to noon. Your child may choose to stay for the summer program hosted by the Boys and Girls Club from noon to 4 p.m.

Elementary Summer Boost

PSD has partnered with The Boys and Girls Club and the YMCA to offer this free summer program. 

Summer boost is a fun and engaging integrated summer learning program that provides 3rd and 4th grade students an extra boost of reading and math instruction. Exciting science themes and activities allow students a chance to practice important reading and math skills while exploring hands-on science concepts. 

The academic portion of the program runs from 9 a.m. to noon. Your child may choose to stay for the summer camp program hosted by The Boys and Girls Club or YMCA from noon to 4 p.m. 

Transportation provided before and after the full-day program. No mid-day transportation available.

Extended School Year (ESY)

Extended School Year services are for students who are eligible for special education services and who meet ESY criteria. Eligibility for ESY is determined by a student's IEP team.

Secondary Opportunities

50 for 50 For students who are currently failing but close to passing a core course. Students will come to school in the morning and complete the tasks that meet a standard of performance acceptable to earn credit. Once tasks are completed with teacher approval grades will be revised.

High School Credit Recovery / Camp Open to high school students who need to recover credit for a failed course. Students will spend two hours on the academic coursework in an effort to show proficiency and earn credit. They will also be provided the opportunity to participate in a range of camp-like activities for the second half of the day (activities available are listed in registration link).

West Sound Tech Summer Satellite Academy

In partnership with West Sound Technical Skills Center, PSD will be offering exciting summer learning classes through the Summer Satellite Academy.

These classes offer great opportunities for students wishing to make more room in their regular school-year schedule, get a head start on their high school career, or recover course credit.

The program:

  • Is free to students;
  • Includes free transportation; and
  • Provides breakfast and lunch to students.

Upon completion of the course, students will earn a letter grade and .5 credits toward graduation.

Online Learning Through Global Virtual Academy (GVA)

GVA’s 9th –12th grade distance learning program serves self-motivated students who are looking for individualized education options with flexibility to achieve high academic standards.

Summer classes will be filled on a first come first serve basis, and students can begin in most regular classes on April 25. 

Credit Recovery, CCFE, PE and Health will begin on June 23rd. 

To enroll, please print and complete the Summer Learning Program form and then submit to your school counselor for a signature. 

Your counselor will review your course selection and return the form to our office. Students should receive an enrollment email within three days of submission to our office with next steps.  

There is no fee for this year's summer classes.
