The Peninsula School District is currently undertaking a significant initiative: reviewing the current School Board adopted math curriculum across all grade levels, from kindergarten through 12th grade. This process is being rolled out with varying timelines for different grade levels. Still, the objective remains consistent - to equip our students with a rigorous math curriculum that aligns with standards and utilizes evidence-based methodologies.
Our primary aim is to select a curriculum that aligns with the Washington State Mathematics standards within an evidence-based framework, ensuring equitable access to high-quality learning for all students. The selected curriculum must include robust support for teachers and alignment with the Peninsula School District's Math Guiding Principles.
The Teaching & Learning Department is collaborating with classroom teachers, principals, special education staff, and our multilingual team to meticulously evaluate the current School Board adopted curriculum and decide if a curriculum adoption is needed. As part of this inclusive process, we will also provide opportunities for family and community input, ensuring a wide range of perspectives are considered.
The graphic below details the process that will be followed to complete the curriculum adoption if a need is identified:
The current elementary math School Board adopted curriculum, enVisionMATH, was implemented in K-5 classrooms in the fall of 2013. The curriculum is outdated, and the printed materials no longer match the digital materials.
A need was identified for a large-scale K-5 math curriculum adoption. The estimated process and timeline for this work is visualized below:
The Elementary Math Curriculum Adoption Committee met for the first time on Thursday, May 1, 2025. This team is comprised of educators throughout the district, ensuring representation from each elementary school and each grade level. The task of the Elementary Math Curriculum Adoption Committee is to review research and evidence-based practices in math, align those practices with our Peninsula School District Strategic Plan, Math Guiding Principles, OPSI Mathematics Learning Standards, and eventually develop a narrowed list of curricula that should go through a rubric process.
Elementary Math Curriculum Adoption Committee Summary | 5.1.25
Stakeholder Input | As the Adoption Committee works through the review process, we will actively seek community input regarding experience with our current Elementary Math curriculum as well as priorities that should be considered when reviewing curriculum options. Surveys will be sent to elementary students, families, and educators. The family survey will also be posted on this website. All stakeholder input will be provided to the Math Adoption Committee for review and consideration as a new curriculum is selected. Additional opportunities for stakeholder input will be provided during Stage 3 – Classroom Pilot.
The PSD Elementary Math Curriculum Adoption Family Survey is now open! Please complete the survey by Friday, May 30, 2025.

During the fall meetings of the Elementary Math Curriculum Adoption Committee, the team will review all elementary math curriculum options available and narrow the list based on key priorities of the Peninsula School District. Once a small list of curricula is narrowed, the team will use the following rubrics to decide which curriculum will be piloted:
A small group of classroom teachers will pilot math materials in the winter of 2025-2026. The pilot teachers will represent all schools and elementary grade levels throughout the district. Additional information and resources associated with the curricula will be posted as soon as consensus is reached on pilot materials.
Stakeholder Input | Throughout the pilot process, teachers who are piloting materials in their classroom will solicit feedback from students and families. The data collected will be shared with the Elementary Math Adoption Committee for their review prior to the committee's decision.
Additional information will be added when the committee reaches a consensus on which curricula to recommend for adoption.
Additional information will be added as the adoption committee prepares to present to the Instructional Materials Committee (IMC).
Additional information and dates will be added as soon as consensus is reached by the committee and School Board meetings are scheduled.
