Secondary Social Studies Adoption
PSD Secondary Social Studies Mission
Students of Peninsula School District, informed by multiple perspectives, will become critical problem-solvers in a global community.
We aim to provide a powerful and rigorous experience in which students:
- Engage with significant ideas
- Connect what they are learning with prior knowledge and current events
- Can think critically about what they are learning
- Can communicate ideas effectively in multiple ways
The Secondary Social Studies Committee has been tasked with reviewing and coming to consensus on a comprehensive curriculum that could be implemented by classroom teachers in grades sixth through twelfth grade. Once consensus is reached by the committee, there will be a public review of the adoption committee's recommendation, the recommendation will be brought to the Instructional Advisory Committee (IAC), and then the Peninsula School District will take action on the recommendation.
Upon adoption of comprehensive curriculum, the multi-year work of implementation will commence.
Ready to Pilot!
The Secondary Social Studies Committee has reached consensus on piloting the materials listed below and we are eager to start piloting materials in grades 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, and 12 social studies. Our secondary social studies teachers across the district have had the opportunity to opt-in to the piloting process. Those who have agreed to pilot will work through this process in February and March.
