Announcing the BusRight Safety Pass System for Students

Peninsula School District is excited to announce the implementation of the BusRight Safety Pass, a new student ridership system designed to improve safety, visibility, and efficiency in our school bus transportation network.
What is the BusRight Safety Pass?
The Safety Pass is a simple ID card system. Students will use their card to scan on and off the school bus each day. This allows our schools, transportation teams, and parents to better monitor ridership and ensure every student arrives safely at their correct destination. The cards will be used exclusively for recording daily bus attendance.
Implementation Timeline
We are phasing in the cards to elementary schools first, followed by middle schools. Students will receive their Safety Pass cards from their teacher or a school administrator by the end of April. To help reduce lost cards for our younger learners, elementary student cards will be attached directly to their backpacks.
By the middle of May, all K-8 students will officially begin using their bus cards to scan on and off the bus. You will receive an email directly from your school notifying you before your school starts using the cards.
Security and Privacy First
We understand that protecting your child’s data is a top priority. Peninsula School District has intentionally removed personal identification details from the Safety Pass cards.
- What is on the card? Only the student's name. It does not show their bus stop, ID number, photo, or school.
- What if it is lost? Because the card only shows a name, your student's information remains secure. If a card is lost, please notify your school office immediately so they can remotely deactivate it and issue a free replacement. (Note: While replacements are free, a fee may be assessed for an excessive number of replacements, so please encourage your student to be careful!)

Helpful Things to Know
- Forgotten Cards: We encourage students to bring their cards every day. However, if they forget it, the bus driver can manually check them into the system for afternoon runs only.
- Special Education: If a student is unable to scan their own card, the bus driver will gladly scan the card for them.
- End of the Year: Bus drivers will collect the cards at the end of the school year. If you accidentally keep it over the summer, don't worry. New cards will be issued in the fall.
We are bringing this system to PSD to create a safer, more reliable transportation experience for your students. If you have any questions, please reach out to your school office.
